Effective January 1, 2012, City of Hanford will assume the animal control field service. The Field Service Officer is the person who responds to an animal-related problem and enforces the City ordinances related to animal control. The City of Hanford has elected to contract field services with Valley Oak SPCA. Valley Oak SPCA is experienced in this field and currently provides field and shelter services for animals for the City of Visalia.
Valley Oak SPCA has hired two animal control officers for the City of Hanford who will respond to calls during normal business hours Monday- Friday and after hours on an on-call basis. All animals collected or impounded in the City of Hanford, in accordance with the new contract with Valley Oak SPCA, will be housed at the Kings County Animal Shelter. To report an animal-related problem, please contact the Hanford Police Department at (559) 585-2540, and choose Option 1 to speak to a dispatcher.
City of Hanford will be responsible for the licensing of all dogs within the city limits. Dog licenses issued by the County of Kings to Hanford residents prior to January 1, 2012 will be valid until their expiration dates. Hanford residents will obtain new dog licenses or renew existing licenses at the Hanford Police Department. For dog licensing information, contact the Hanford Police Department, and choose Option 0 to speak to the receptionist.
